According to a report, 90% of cardiovascular patients fail to make lifestyle changes

There simply remains no denying that cardiovascular illness is a serious problem to consider. One research study showed that nearly half of the US adult population is affected by some sort of heart condition. A further look at the statistics will tell us how scary the situation really is. Cardiovascular illness currently stands as the leading cause of deaths in the USA. More than 6 million people are under treatment for various related conditions and as CDC claims, 50% of them will die within the five years of diagnosis.

That being said, there is one more update to the present research findings. Now according to one study, only 10% of the patients with heart disease will follow recommendations for lifestyle changes. In a wider scheme of things, 90% fail to make the amendments as suggested by their doctor.

The news is really startling and causes our attention to be drawn towards the issue. Failing to follow the guidelines may worsen the cardiovascular problem eventually causing further complications.

Lifestyle Changes & Cardiovascular Illness

Medical experts have identified four main lifestyle changes that the patient should adopt. They are as follows:

  1. Cutting down on the salt intake
  2. Reducing the intake of fluids
  3. Being more physically active
  4. Keeping a check on (monitoring) your weight frequently

Most of these guidelines need to be followed daily at best but if not, at least thrice a week. However, as the research study has shown, individuals even fail to do so. The recommendation least followed is being physically active. Cardiovascular patients just don’t seem to exercise more! Moreover, what is also prominently seen is that the amount of salt intake is also not regulated.

According to cardiologists, these 4 recommendations are pre-requisites to leading a healthy lifestyle with heart disease. Failing to follow them may potentially be responsible for worsening the condition. Strict emphasis is laid upon exercising more. Sitting all day with no or minimal amount of physical activity can cause numerous health problems. The easy way to go about this guideline is to proceed slowly with a workout plan. A plan that is feasible and convenient to follow.

Heart Disease can be Managed

There is a common misbelief that heart disease tends to last forever. People tend to think a person who has been diagnosed with a cardiovascular illness may have no prognosis whatsoever. He/She may continue to lead a life with the disease without having any chances of recovering back. But according to health officials, this is not true!

Heart disease can absolutely be managed provided the patient follows what the doctor has instructed. More importantly, with the advancement in medical science and technology, the prognosis is much better than the past. But above all, the risk can be minimized through various means if followed correctly. For example, obesity is one leading cause of cardiovascular illnesses. Cutting down on your weight by reducing the intake of cholesterol is one viable option. Obviously, working out more is another.

Similarly, if heart condition has been caused by substance abuse that too can be prevented. All that matters is what is innately responsible for illness in the first place. What you need to keep in mind is that lifestyle changes will do you more good than harm.
