How almond oil is beneficial for hair?

Almonds have been appreciated in many ancient cultures because of their healing and health properties. These properties include high levels of protein, omega-9 fatty acids, and vitamin E. This indicates that almond oil can improve the strength and shine of your hair.

Sweet almond oil is the most commonly sold and recommended oil for use as a hair product. Its properties and nutrients have been shown to help hair appear softer, stronger, and shinier. As an added benefit, almond oil is very gentle on your scalp and smells great when applied. It is optimal for treating damaged hair and hair loss. Even for the hair, the benefits are numerous but some of them are described as follows;

Almond oil softens hair

Almond oil is an emollient, showing that it can fill in openings at a cellular level in your hair. This makes hair feel smoother to the touch. Moreover, almond oil on hair gives it a softer texture over time. Once almond oil is incorporated into your hair care routine, you may notice that your hair is easier to style and comb through.

Almond oil strengthens and repairs hair

Use of certain oils for the treatment of hair can make it less prone to breakage. Furthermore, it also diminishes split ends.

The lubricating properties found in nut oils, such as almond oil, reduce friction during hair styling. A study on Brazilian nut oils exposed improvement in hair’s flexibility when it was treated with small amounts of oil ingredients. Many of such oils contain oleic acid and linoleic acid, just like sweet almond oil.

Almond oil could make your hair grow

There are no clinical trials to prove that almond oil is effective for the proper growth of hair. But it has been observed that almond oil can make your hair stronger and less prone to split ends.

It means your hair growth won’t be slow down by losing hair which becomes damaged. High amounts of vitamin E is present in almond oil which is a natural antioxidant. Your hair looks better and healthier when these antioxidants fight the environmental stress around your hair.

Almond oil treats scalp conditions

Almond oil can also be used to treat flaky scalp called seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis. Though there are no proper studies to show how almond oil treats these conditions, it has been used to treat dry scalp in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for centuries.

Moreover, rubbing it directly on your scalp increases your blood flow to the area. And introduces powerful antioxidants to the skin on your head.

Uses of almond oil

You can apply it directly to your hair. Rub a small amount of almond oil in between your palms before applying it. If you want to increase shine and smoothness, pay more care to the ends of your hair. Massage the oil into the end of your hair shaft and then leave the oil.

Almond oil can also be used as an important ingredient in a conditioning hair mask. For this purpose, mix 2 parts room temperature coconut oil with sweet almond oil 1 part and a creamy, natural conditioning agent, like avocado. Then apply this effective hair mask to clean, dry hair, and leave it on for 40 minutes.

Almond oil can also be used in a capsule or liquid form as an oral supplement. Its direct impact on the health of your hair is still unknown. But it gives you a big dose of vitamin E, protein, and omega-9 fatty acids which could improve your overall health.

Potential risks and side effects

Generally, almond oil is safe for everyone to use on their skin. But anyone with a severe nut allergy should not use it on their hair, or for any other purpose. This is because the allergic reaction it activates could be serious.

Don’t directly put pure almond oil on hair before heat styling. This is because the oil will heat up around hair follicle which could burn your scalp or the hair shaft itself.

Using almond oil to increase the strength and shine of your hair is low risk for most people and expected to work. But more research is needed to demonstrate how almond oil strengthens and conditions hair.
