Pornography one major contributor towards erectile dysfunction

‘The US is the biggest pornography market in the world. The viewership has seen a sharp rise in recent years and is able to earn millions of dollars. The industry is growing at a fast pace attracting more and more viewers. But not all would be aware of the dark side and related risks that tag along.

The concern comes from a recent ad campaign that initially started in the underground tunnels of London. The posters, which could practically be seen everywhere were promoting the sale of Sildenafil or simply Viagra!

Pornography and Impotence

Previously, it was widely believed that erectile dysfunction is a condition that primarily affects older men. For certainly, they were the ones buying Viagra the most. A closer look at the sale of Sildenafil products, all around the US, show that young people are as likely to buy them.

As per the data of 2002, the cases of erectile dysfunction in men under 40 stood at a mere 2-3%. The trend has risen dramatically over the years. The most recent comprehensive study that examined ED was conducted in 2008. It found that there is about a ten times increase in just a span of few years. The rise attributed to the flourishing of the pornography industry which has essentially led to male impotence.

Clare Faulkner is a psychosexual therapist who mainly deals with the sex lives of individuals. She seems extremely worried about the recent figures and calls for authorities to step into action. For her, the situation is troublesome and should be actively accounted for.

Mrs Faulkner has received and dealt with numerous cases of erectile dysfunction. What is unfortunate is that a major chunk of her patients lies in the age bracket of 20 to 30 years old. The patients reported difficulties in carrying out intercourse with their partners. What is even more unfortunate is that a greater portion of the victims were regular pornography viewers.

They were essentially sexually arousing themselves to pornography. When it came to performing intercourse, they had to face challenges like maintaining erection for a long period of time. Which is what Mr Faulkner believes make them become yet another victim of erectile dysfunction.

The problem with Pornography

The aforementioned discussion should highlight to you why pornography is bad. Particularly, it should ring a bell for the youth population who are known to increasingly suffer from impotence. On a slightly fortunate note, there are ways to overcome the problem. Visiting a fertility therapist may offer one viable solution. However, that doesn’t in any way mean to negate the underlying issue i.e. pornography itself.

The habit turns into a never-ending cycle which can have serious repercussions in the long run.

Apart from the fact that it can possibly lead to impotence, there are other underlying consequences to account for.

Pornography projects a notion that may have no significance or link with the actual reality. It leads to the idea where women are shown to be submissive and demanding for sex. At the same time portraying men: hard as rock. Believing in such sexual myths can be a problem for both partners who indulge in intercourse.
