Dogs are widely considered to be among the friendliest pets, certainly friendlier than cats for most people. Interestingly, according to one study, there are more dogs in the USA than children in American households!

The question that might arise in your mind: why do people tend to keep a dog or any other pet at their homes?

The answer isn’t simple and straightforward. In fact, there are a variety of reasons ranging from enhancing mood to the sheer fun of having a pet around.

An addition to the list comes in the form of medical benefits which have been validated by experts in the field. Now according to various research studies, dog owners tend to remain healthy, fit and more emotionally stable.

Mood enhancer

If you weren’t already aware, the presence of a dog can be good for mood enhancement. People who have had the pleasure of keeping one are known to be more emotionally energetic.

Suffice to say, your pet will keep your stress level down. Just by spending time with your dog in any way possible can distract you from the disturbing train of thought.

A viable source of exercise

One such responsibility demands taking the pet out for a walk every alternate day to. While that is important for the health of the dog but it also has external benefits for the owner. Going for a walk means some movement for your body that will essentially keep you fit and help fight obesity.

Long story short, if you plan on keeping yourself physically active but lack the innate motivation to get up, then keeping a dog may provide you with the solution.
