To investigate the cause, the activity of 150 participants was observed. They were divided into groups of two with 75 volunteers in each. The first group maintained a regular sleep pattern of 7 hours at night. The other group members varied their sleep between 2 to 4 hours.
Scientists believe the second group resemble the daily night pattern of US citizens suffering from insomnia.
After every 2-day interval, the behaviour of the participants was thoroughly observed. They were asked to give their opinions on a noise-making toy. The noise, in the general scheme of things, was geared towards making the volunteers feel uncomfortable.
The group members who were following a 7 hour sleep schedule remained calm and comfortable. While on the other hand, those who received 2 to 4 hours of sleep were known to exhibit aggressive behavior. They got annoyed and frustrated easily to the extent that they felt like quitting the experiment.
The study was conducted on 150 people who volunteered for the research. While that may not seem a lot, but nevertheless, the results can be applicable on a wider scale.
