Are E-Cigarettes Safe to Use?

Recent times have witnessed an increase in the “vaping” culture. Vape pens, e-cigarettes and other forms are now available easily in the market. People now buy them as an alternative to traditional packet cigarettes.

The question to be considered is whether they are actual real alternatives? Subsequently, you will ask whether it is safe to use e-cigarettes

This debate relating to the safety of vaping is an ongoing one. There is not much research to back up the claims yet scientists are hopeful on arriving at a conclusion in the near future.

What are E-Cigarettes?

E-Cigarettes are designed to look exactly like a traditional cigarette. Except it is operated using a battery and can be re-used again. There are now various types available including vape-pens, mods and Juuls.

You should know that all of these products contain the addictive substance, nicotine.

Nicotine is found naturally in tobaccos and by smoking it, the person feels relaxed. Needless to say, the substance also becomes the reason for addiction.

E-Cigarettes has a liquid cartridge that contains nicotine in ample amount. Basically, when the person inhales through the product, the cartridge gets heated up allowing the person to take in nicotine.

There is one important difference to understand. E-Cigarettes do not contain tobacco. Because the liquid is heated instead of tobacco, the smoke given out isn’t really the tobacco smoke as in normal circumstances.

Usually, the cartridge will also be filled with other flavours to provide the smoker with a different type of experience.

Are they safe?

The next question you will ask whether e-cigarettes are safe to use. You’ll wonder that it doesn’t contain any tobacco so are there still any potential side effects?

The answer is: Yes!

While the e-cigarettes do not have tobacco inside them, nevertheless have other carcinogen substances. Therefore, you are still putting yourself at a considerable risk even if you quit the traditional cigarette.

A study was conducted by a group of scientists funded by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The researchers wanted to find out whether tobacco-free make the vaping products any less harmful.

Around 50 liquid cartridges were collected and tested for different chemicals. The scientists observed the presence of toxic chemicals known to be contained in anti-freeze compounds. This chemical can be severely dangerous to inhale and has carcinogen property.

Moreover, most of the cartridges were loaded with the Formaldehyde and Benzene compounds. Both of these substances were directed as unsafe for their ability to cause cancer in humans.

The final conclusion drawn was that e-cigarettes are not as safe as people presume them to be. True, that the product is tobacco-free yet doesn’t negate the other health consequences that tag along.

The body is able to react with most of these chemical compounds to inflict the person with severe illnesses. Even to the extent, that some of these illnesses can be fatal. Long term usage of e-cigarettes is linked with complications like emphysema, bronchitis, and cardiovascular disease.

It is high time that the young population is made aware of the severity of the vaping problem.
