Eating proteins and proper sleep linked with increased dopamine level

Dopamine is a vital chemical compound released by the brain. While it has a number of essential function, it is quite often known for one. An increased level of this substance is associated with high levels of happiness and pleasure. For some scientists, it is a “motivating” chemical, propelling people to perform a certain function.

Needless to say, you can well infer the effects of low levels of dopamine. It induces a feeling of sadness coupled with depression which leads to severe demotivation.

The dopamine level is well regulated naturally through your central nervous system. On the very first thought, you will assume that it cannot be voluntarily increased in any way. But surprisingly, that isn’t really the case. Now research studies have been able to identify two scientifically proven ways of enhancing dopamine levels.

Include proteins in your diet

If you are excluding protein from your diet then you are making a big mistake. There is no possible explanation for why you should not include this essential nutrient in your diet. Traditionally, they were referred to as “building blocks” helping in growth and development. However, as per the latest research conducted, it has a positive contribution towards increasing dopamine levels.

Protein is primarily composed of amino acids. Some of them are synthesized naturally by the CNS. While for other types, you have to obtain from different food sources.

The amino acid type: Tyrosine has an important function to play in that regard. When it enters the body, it gets converted to dopamine through enzyme activity. So obtaining a reasonable amount Tyrosine means increasing your dopamine levels naturally.

There is a wide range of food sources that provide the body with this compound. Any protein-rich food will normally contain some portion of Tyrosine. Yet, the following items are known to be rich in this substance.

  • Legumes
  • Eggs
  • Dairy
  • Soy

Maintaining a sleep pattern

Your body is tuned to operate in a certain way. Any sort of disruption can be consequential for the person. This holds true for the secretion of dopamine.

When you wake up in the morning, your dopamine levels are at its peak. It induces a feeling of alertness and helps to maintain focus. As mentioned earlier, it motivates the person to perform a specific task. The opposite holds true for night period when the level drops to a minimum.

People who do not maintain a proper sleeping schedule, disturb this synthesis process. Therefore, less amount of sleep is linked with frequent mood disruptions.

Why is that the case?

What basically happens is that the sensitivity of dopamine receptors are considerably reduced. Think of the entire body as a machine that needs some ample amount of rest to function properly. A night spent awake essentially overwork the receptors. As a result, the very next morning the person finds him/herself having less amount of dopamine. Which in turn can trigger depression in people?

The consequences that have to be faced are pretty unpleasant so need to be avoided. The best way is to regulate a proper sleeping schedule. Go to bed at night providing the body with adequate rest. Wake up early in the morning to stay alert and concentrated for the day.
