Research finds three natural measures for a healthy eyesight

Why does your eyesight weaken?

Nourish your eyes with a healthy diet

Research claims that foods high in antioxidants are a good overall strategy for elevating eye health. Raw vegetables are usually rich in antioxidants and carotenoids i.e. bright yellow, orange, and red pigments. They definitely help protect and support your eyesight. There are two antioxidants found in large amounts around the lens and the retina of the eye. They include,

  • Lutein
  • Zeaxanthin

Foods rich in these antioxidants have been shown to support good eye health. Foods that are generally a rich source of carotenoids and are good for eyes include,

It is exponentially more powerful than even the most popular antioxidant supplements e.g. CoQ10, resveratrol, and glutathione. It is a momentous addition to nourishing the eyes. Eye exercises

Research reveals that there are a few different ways to naturally support vision through eye exercises. Scientists advise that these exercises should be carried without corrective lenses. These exercises basically strengthen your eye muscles.

Sungazing is one of the oldest and most used eye exercises. It is a practice of staring at a sunrise or sunset for reasonably long periods of time. Sungazing strengthens the “oculo-endocrine system.”

It is stated that the key to this therapy is the interaction between invisible ultraviolet band and the retina. The visible bands of light stimulate the retina’s cone and rods that produce vision. However, the invisible band stimulates the adjacent epithelial cells. It transmits a powerful nerve impulse from the optic nerve to the pituitary and pineal glands directly. Thus, sungazing is considered a powerful healing and strengthening exercise for the eyes.

People can also try the “sun blinking exercise.” It strengthens your eyes. For this purpose, you have to look once to the north of the sun, about 15 degrees above it, and blink your eyes for 3-5 seconds. Do the same while looking to the east, south, and west of the sun. Note that looking directly into the sun is not advised. It may cause the rays to hit the retina in the center which may harm it anyway.

Research has come up with an even easier and safer way to support your eye health. It is by wearing pinhole glasses. These glasses, having hundreds of tiny holes, alter the light entering your eyes. They transform the light from an overpowering mass to a collection of lower-intensity, distinct light rays. It effectively gives your eyes a more “organized” pattern of light to focus.

Moreover, this organized pattern of light helps support the range of motion of our ciliary muscles. These muscles control the shape of our eye-lenses that focus the light inside your eyes. As these muscles grow stronger, they become more “fit” instead of “flabby.” It is the same case as resistance exercises make our body muscles more capable over time. Pinhole glasses are usually very inexpensive, safe, and simple to use. Wearing them a few minutes each day enhances the fitness of your eyes.

Cleanse your liver

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) says that the liver and the eyes have an intimate connection. It means that compromising with the health of one organ (liver) can adversely affect the other (eye).

The liver plays a major role in detoxification of our body. It neutralizes the free radicals and excretes them in large part through kidneys. Poor health of the liver affects its functioning.
